Welcome to the 2023 APRU Annual Presidents' Meeting here at HKU!

This meeting gathers the most innovative and forward-thinking leaders in higher education from Asia-Pacific.... and I am honoured to be among you today.

Most fittingly, this year's theme, "From Invention to Implementation: Solutions for a Sustainable Future,"... brings together innovation, sustainability, and creative strategies... for tackling the world’s grand challenges we face today.

As university leaders, we have a duty… to spearhead innovation that can make a real impact to people's lives.

At the University of Hong Kong, we are committed to addressing some of the most pressing questions... such as socio-economic inequalities... sustainability... and public health.

Our research is focused on creating innovative, holistic solutions to these issues.

We are therefore proud to be in this network of like-minded institutions… that share our commitment to advancing knowledge… and bettering the humankind.

It is vital to develop new concepts, but we must also ensure… such innovative ideas are put into practice.

This requires collaboration across disciplines and sectors… in local, national, and international settings.

This APRU APM is the excellent opportunity for us to advance new ideas, learn from each other, and collaborate… on new and ambitious initiatives to achieve our shared goals.

Only by standing together… can we change the future.
